Again the moment has arrived
When the afternoon light appears
Illuminating the golds of leaves
Still clinging to the branches
Determined not to leave just yet
They shimmer on the breeze
An attempt to cover the spaces
Where fallen leaves
Have left holes
For me to peer into
The depth of the woods
And catch a glimpse of places
Where soon
Winter secrets will be revealed
For just that moment
I gaze and in the minute space
Of a breath
There is a hint of the longing of my heart
There is a hint of peace
Blessed
Redemptive
Hope filed peace
The tasks at hand can wait
The paper can remain unfinished
The sermon will rest
It is peace that I need
Maybe it is peace you need
I know that it is peace
That the world needs
This moment will not last
And I need to feel this peace
A small grey bird
A lovely Tufted Titmouse
Flits onto the nearby branch
And peers over
To where I am writing
Her head leans to one side
And she bursts into song
Brilliant, persistent, purpose filled song
As if to tell me something that I need to know
But can’t quite understand
Because our language is not the same
Try, she sings to me, try
Try to know
Try to understand
Try to accept
Try to believe
The message of this moment
The message of this peace
Maybe all I really need to know
In this golden moment is
That as long as God’s heart is full of love
For you
For me
For all humanity
For all creation
This will not be
This cannot be
The last moment of peace
The golden moment passes
As I knew it would
But today I have more hope than yesterday
Because the Titmouse sang to me
The leaves swayed for me
The golden light shown on me
And I felt Holy love
Your words touched me deeply. Thank you. You have known and shared the peace of God.

Thank you, dear sister, for passing on this moment of peace. It is precious when we recognise this amidst the din and noise and pressure of the day.
