This morning,
This soft, summer morning
While the sun is still trying to convince
The world
That the day commenced
Hours ago,
I find myself waking
In gratitude.
Sometime
During the rest of the night
During the darkest hours before dawn
There came waves of healing
Washing over me
Even as I was unaware.
The waves began
As deep has called to deep
In the midst of
Life-giving
Late night
Conversations
Early morning check-ins
And in and out
Words
Of laughter and peace
Of sustenance and wonder
That have framed my days and nights
For the last four months
Made possible by the magic of messenger
And the deep, abiding love
Of the Holy One who knows me
Who gets me
Who delights in me
Who loves me.
And on this morning,
This soft, summer morning
When the sun is still trying to convince
The world
That the day commenced
Hours ago,
I am reminded
By a brilliantly yellowed
Sunflower
That has fallen over
Into the loving caresses of Hosta leaves
That my life is thriving
In vibrant yellows and greens,
In dazzling purples and reds,
In luminous whites
And shimmering golds
And all the other splendid
Colors and hues
That paint creation and life
Beautiful
Meaningful
Delightful.
This morning,
This soft, summer morning
As the sun has convinced me
That a life-giving day has commenced
I am amazed by the gifts of the Holy One
Sacred steadfast love
that gleams through my days
And divine song
That hums and twinkles
Through my nights.
I am grateful.
